He then taught art and design at Hunan University for nine years. In 1987 and 1988, Jie studied and lectured as a visiting scholar at the Ecole Cantonal d’ Art de Lausanne, Switzerland. Upon immigrating to the United States, Jie taught at Auburn University as a visiting professor. In 1995, he received his master’s degree in industrial design from Georgia Tech. Since then, he had been successfully working at the Disney and Fox Feature Animation studios as a background stylist and visual development artist until 2007 when he decided to leave the movie industry and to focus on oil painting. His screen credits include Ice Age 3, Ice Age 2, Brother Bear, Lilo and Stitch, Tarzan and Mulan.

Jie’s artworks can be seen in many private and public collections around the world . He has been published in Artist’s Magazine and International Artist’s Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine. His portrait paintings received second place in 2003 and the Honor Award in 2002 and 2005 at the Portrait Society of America’s International Competitions. His landscape paintings were selected into the Top 100 in the 2002 and 2003 “Art for the Parks” competition, and received Landscape Art Award, Judge's Choice Award and Grand Teton Natural History Society Purchase Award.

Jie’s painterly approach is largely influenced by the direct and fluent style of early European, Russian, and American impressionism and realism artists. He enjoys painting directly from life and en plein air landscape. Jie tries to communicate his feeling and inspiration he found in the subjects to viewers through the harmony of color and energy in brushstrokes.

Jie is a member of the Portrait Society of America, Plein Air Painter of West, and Oil Painters of America.  He is represented by Trailside Gallery in Jackong Hole, WY, Walls Gallery in Wilmington, NC, and Portrait Inc. Birmingham, AL.
